But let me tell you how bad things have to be to actually get this day off:
A blizzard came in last night
-11 temperature with a windchill of -35
Freezing rain that coated all the streets and then 2" of snow on top of that (Apparently the plows are defenseless against the ice- HAH!)
Wind speeds of 65 mph with gusts up to 80 mph
So I ask you, is it even worth it to have to deal with this crap just for a day off school?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are scheduled to have another winter storm system this evening and more snow for the rest of the week. Maybe we can milk this one day off into the rest of the week!
The only downside - I have a laptop and access to work stuff, so technically should be working from home. Oh, yeah, and we are out of milk.

I can't believe that you did not learn that most important message from the south: if there's even an outside chance that we'll get 13 flakes of snow within the next 30 days, mob the grocery store to get all the necessities, including MILK!!!
I wish we'd get one good snow a year. I'd say it's not going to happen this year as we only have about 3 or 4 actual weeks of winter left. I don't think our temps have dipped below 25 yet.
Mom
We must have gotten the same storm that you did because we had the same weather and a snow day too, the first one of the season. It was such a fun day at home, as snow days should be! We played games, played with play dough, ate strawberries with nutella, and watched two hours of "The Housewives Of Orange County" (for some reason my kids love this show as I do). Even Mitchell participated in all the day's activities, and even offered to play Polly Pockets with Victoria. My kids didn't have one argument or fight. It was a wonderful day!! Unfortunately it's back to school today though...those darn salt trucks!
It's snowing here now, we're expecting 5-7 inches by tomorrow morning and I already went to the Schnucks panic aisle last night. JCI will probably take a snow day as alot of our employees are from tropical climates!
Sandy, you didn't mention getting the kids all bundled up to go sledding or build snowmen or make angels! It's so much fun dealing with all the wet coats, gloves, scarves and all...
